Mirror Balloons

Jeppe Hein’s Mirror Balloon sculptures playfully explore ideas of hopefulness and illusion. Moving subtly with the air current of the room, they give an impression of being real balloons, ready to fly off at any minute while in fact they are securely attached to the ceiling.

Hein’s practice is often centred on the idea of the connection between the physical and emotional, and on the exploration of how we move, think and feel within a space. With this in mind, the Mirror Balloon sculptures instil in us an urge to physically interact with them, to jump up, to get close, to see if they are real, and to imagine where they are going.
