Orden Discontinuo | Online presentation

Galleri Nicolai Wallner is pleased to present an Online Presentation of works by Jose Dávila as part of his series Orden Discontinuo. Translated from the original Spanish, “Discontinuous order” is a series of silkscreens on cardboard that depict geometric compositions that accumulate and blend, generating a certain spontaneous rhythm and a sensation of order.

Using imagery reminiscent of modernist abstraction, the cardboard fragments come together with elements that re-appear and disappear, hinting at a kind of hidden, visual language.

The use of cardboard is prevalent in Dávila’s practice, previously used in the execution of a series of “local adaptations” of iconic, minimalist sculptures. This process can be described as a material de-sacralisation, since it translates easily-recognisable sculptures into generic volumetric presences, as simple patterns for occupying space. Cardboard materialises these patterns, communicating them from its own fragility, symbolic connotations and locality.
