Maja Malou Lyse is a multidisciplinary artist known for her bold, provocative, and socially engaged work that explores themes of sexuality, gender and digital identity. A central focus of Lyse’s work is the relationship between the body and technology, particularly in the context of the digital age. She investigates how online spaces influence self-perception, intimacy and the commodification of identity. Through her art, Lyse frequently critiques the ways in which social media, internet culture, and virtual realities shape our understanding of sexuality and desire.
Lyse positions herself in front of, behind, and next to the camera, skillfully drawing attention to the ways we identify, objectify, and perceive desire, highlighting the complex issues of representation and power within the images we consume. Her work opens a broader conversation about imagery and visual content in today’s world. How do the constant stream of images in our lives shape our behavior and how we see ourselves?
Lyse’s art is characterized by its directness and unapologetic engagement with feminist theory and sexual politics. She often employs humour, irony and elements of pop culture to dismantle traditional power structures and question normative views on gender roles. Her unique voice and commitment to exploring uncomfortable yet critical topics have positioned her as one of the most dynamic young artists in the contemporary art scene.
